Layers of the atmosphere

The atmosphere is the layers of gases that surround the Earth, including of the air that we all breathe.
It consists of the various layers :-

  • Troposphere
  • Stratosphere
  • Mesosphere
  • Thermosphere
  • Exosphere
And here we talk about each layer one by one:

  1. Troposphere Layer:-

It is the first layer of the Earth's atmosphere, it extends from 6 and 20 kilometers above the surface of earth. We all live in this layer only, all weather are formed in this layer itself. The temperature in this reason varies form 15 degree Celsius on ground to - 51 degree Celsius at the top of this layer. this layer consists of 78 % of Nitrogen, 21 % of oxygen, 1 % of all other gases.

      2. Stratosphere Layer:-

The layer of the atmosphere expands above the Troposphere is known as Stratosphere. This layers of  atmosphere extend to 50 kilometers above from the surface of the earth. The layer consists of the major part of ozone layer(approx. 85%). Ozone Layer protects us from the harmful radiation of the sun. The temperature varies from -51 degree Celsius at the bottom to -15 degree Celsius at the top. The top part of this layer is hotter than lower level because Ozone layer generates lot of heat.

     3. Mesosphere Layer:-

This layer of the atmosphere expands above Stratosphere is known as Mesosphere. This layers of atmosphere extend to 85 kilometers above the surface of the earth. The meteors the enters in the earth's atmosphere generally vaporizes in this layer, so this layer consists of  higher concentration of metallic ion than the atmospheric layers. The temperature in this layer varies from -15 degree Celsius to -120 degree Celsius.

    4. Thermosphere Layer:-

This layer of atmosphere expands above the Mesosphere in known as Thermosphere. This layers of atmosphere extends above 500 to 1000 kilometers above the surface of the earth. The temperature of this layer is very hot as it varies around 2000 degree Celsius, this is due to the thin layers of gases present in this layer which absorbs X-RAY radiation from the sun.

    5. Exosphere Layer:-

This is the last layer of the earth's atmosphere. This layer of atmosphere expands above the Thermosphere in known as Exosphere. This layers of atmosphere extends above 10,000 kilometers above the surface of the earth. This layer mainly consists of hydrogen and helium.
